CO2 is commonly used in hydraulic fracture treatments. It may be used as an energizer in the fracturing fluid to enhance well clean-up, integrated into the fracturing fluid to create Poly CO2, or as a base fluid for fracturing. Its particular physical properties allow it to be transported easily as a liquid, and pumped using conventional high-pressure pumps.
CO2 is a versatile fluid that is miscible with hydrocarbons. It is used in a significant proportion of conventional and unconventional fracturing treatments. It is primarily applied in natural gas wells. CO2 is safe to handle as it is not only non-combustible but acts as a fire retardant.
